BVB's First Round Match Up Breakdown

Well it's finally here. After months of anticipation we are less than a week out From RCVII "The quest for the Windsormaker".  After a long 12 months captain Blake leads his band of brahs back to avenge an excruciating loss to Team Lehmann in RCVI.  The draft has taken place and the first round match ups are set.   Lets break things down and try and figure out who will be drinking from the Windsormaker at the end of next Saturday.

OLSON/MIVEY (ZACH) vs. GAUER/THE HAWK (GABE)

Got to love this matchup.   #1 overall pick Benny O teams up with Kitty MIverson to take on the Eden Prairie All Star pairing of the other Blake G and The Hawk.  The Hawk will be pulling out from his home in the Big D to make another trip to Spooner GC.  Someone with that dedication cannot be underestimated.  Mivey will be looking to improve on some disappointing rounds in the past few RCs.  I'm guessing the Hawk feeds Mivey enough drinks to make him irrelevant in the match up.  This is coming down to Da Nut and The Well Dressed Blake Gauer.  I predict Benny will get shaky with the putter after drinking too many Gatorades and getting a sugar high.  I also predict The Hawk gets slapped by a beer cart girl and sobers up enough to help out Blake.

BVB's Pick- GAUER/HAWK

N. LEHMANN/HANSON (Z) vs. GABRIEL/BURNHAM (G)

We got a familiar match up here.  Can this be the year that Nate and Scott figure out how to get into Blakes head?  I'm predicting seeing Nate in the clubhouse between rounds with the familiar "Blakes fucking too good" look on his face.  It's OK buddy we know you do your damage in the second round.

BVB's Pick- Captain Blake/Burnham

Z. LEHMANN/KORBEL (Z) vs. HEIM/THOMPSON (G)

Captain Zach and Lefty Korbel take on Heim and Vern in another interesting match up.  This match-up will depend on if Lehmann can figure out some short game issues that nearly cost him an embarrassing loss in a pre RC practice round.  Will the success from last year get too his head?  I'm guessing he hits the practice range hard and Korbel greases a few birdies for them to overcome the home course advantage Gabriel's veteran players have in this match up.

BVB's Pick- Zach/Korbel

MISSINE/EDDIE vs. BVB/GRAY BUSCH

Yes everyone they are back.  The most successful duo in Ryder cup history BVB and Buschy look to continue their dominance.  The minute the pairing was released Team Lehmann started rethinking any thoughts of a repeat.  You do have to give Lehmann credit by trying to contain them by pairing them against Big E and The Jones Artist Eddie.  Big E was able end BVB's undefeated match record two RC's ago, and has probably been the MVP of the last two Cups.  Eddie is unknown commodity but has definitely brought some good smack to the Pre Cup press conferences.  Gray Busch and BVB are just too much to handle.  Predicting this one ends early.  Also pretty good chance Buschy gets Big E hammered in this matchup and takes him out of the second round.

BVB's Pick- BVB/GRAY BUSCH

SUNDEEN/ JE. DUVAL (Z) vs. SAM O/ BILLY V (G)

This one should should be a better drinking match up than anything.  I see 8 am whiskeys and a bunch of bogies in this one.  Will Sam be able to steal his top pick brothers thunder by carrying his squad to a first round upset?  Can Taylor and Jeremey keep focused when Billy makes naked snow angels in the 16th hole bunker?

BVB's Pick- PUSH

FRITZ/ JOHNNY (Z) vs. PEDERSON/STAHL (G)

Two RC Virgins will be featured in this dual.  Fritz and Stahl probably don't know what they are in for, so it will be interesting to see how they hold up on the second 18.  Jumping into a alcohol fueled drinking golf battle is no easy task.  Luckily for Fritz he has been spending plenty of time with the Nowaks to prepare.  Pederson and Stahl bring chemistry from spending time holding Blake's hair products for him.

BVB's Pick- PEDERSON/STAHL

GREENFIELD/ JA DUVAL (Z) vs. JOHNSON/BUTTLOVE (G)

This match-up will be all mental.  Greenfield has been lighting up the RC CUP message boards posting hole by hole analysis of every shot he has taken and every beer he has drank since the draft.  Duval isn't afraid to try and get into an opponents head either.  Blake countered with two calm confident competitors in Butt Love and Jake.   Jake will drop a few bombs to keep this close.

BVB's Pick- GREENFIELD/JA DUVAL

SHOMBERG/ LUNDE (Z) vs. TSCHMIDT/DAVEY (G)

Pretty sick of Shombergs boyfriend Drunkstin gushing reviews of Ross's pre-cups practice rounds.  I heard he cranked a few monster drives at a contest following a fresh shaft polishing by Dustin.  Lunde always brings his A dress game to the cup so we will see if that translates into some RC success.  TSchmidt will be carrying Davey in this one.  From out of the Duck at Bar close to the first tee.  Going to be a tough match-up for Team Blake

BVB's Pick- SHOMBERG/LUNDE

LEE/FELMLEE (Z) vs. BYERS/SCOTTY V (G)

Scotty V back in a action after faking an ACL tear to get off our annual Labor Day Spooner Softball team (savvy move, we were horseshit).  Pat Byers comes in refreshed after reading a few good novels and pounding a few bottles of Cabernet.  They take on Rich Lee and Craig in which should produce plenty of fireworks, and bunker shots.  Liked what I saw in practice from the Tall One.

BVB'S PICK- BYERS/SCOTTY V

BWANDON/JIVEY (Z)  vs. DRUNKSTIN/MALLOY (G)

Highly anticipated match up right here.  Can Bwandon and Ivey rekindle their bromance?  Its been along journey for these two eskimo brothers.  These former tent buddies once were considered groomsman in each other weddings.  Then a sad thing called Graduation happened.  They still had occasional weekend booty calls, but as time passed so did the late night you tube sessions.  Now all that is left is what could have been.  Maybe this is the first step toward reconciliation.  Can Drunkstin keep his drinking under control to help 5 tool player Malloy (driving, chipping, putting, cigar smoking, whiskey drinking)?  Will he be too tired from his long journey from Omaha.  Will he be up all night cornhusking Shomby?  A lot of questions there so i think I may have to go with..................................

Not so fast my friends.  Got to put my faith in Malloy in this one.  Ivey will be yelling at Bwandon by the 11th.

BVB's Pick- MALLOY/DRUNKSTIN

Looks like Team Blake will be looking good going into the second round.  Lot of close match-ups once again but the determination of Team Blake is going to be too much to handle.  Many of us have had a long year thinking about what took place on the back 18 last year.  Throw in the chance to elephant walk around SPGC clubhouse with the Windsormaker and everyone on #teamblake is fired up.  I still see this coming down to the wire with myself needing to make a putt on 18 to put it away.  Post game interview will go something this this.
