Can you believe we have reached the 8th year of
this disgraceful display of debauchery? One
would think that every course in the upper 72 (counties of Wisconsin), would
have banned this crew from getting together for 36 booze and vomit filled
holes. Luckily, SGC has long realized
that we are idiots, and will give them all our money. Anywho, what better way to kick things off by
deep diving into this year’s draft picks.

This was a rare year wear little can be said to second guess
the captains. I think Zachary and Blake both have established excellent
squads. I really like every player and every pick that was made, in the
order it was made. It is impossible to say one negative thing about
anything or anyone. It’s going to be a spectacular match-up, and I truly
think it will be a coin flip on who wins.
I really have to hand it to captain Lehmann this year. He was very honest this year in assessing his
own talent, and wasn’t whining to Blake about the deck being stacked against
him, even though that was never true. Now
Zachary knows that Blake is an extremely good person, who would rather let Zach
get an unfair advantage than listen to him whine and bitch. Zach grew up a little this year by allowing a
fair start to the draft, so I have to tip the cap to him. I am proud of you.
Blake started the draft by drafting himself. A wonderful player and an even better person,
what more can you ask for in a #1 pick and Captain (you are the real MVP).
Zach countered with the talented John Cuskey. What a great pick. He has a great game and like Blake is an even
better person.
Pat Malloy was selected in the second round by Team
Gabriel. A fierce competitor, who will
put a drunken teammate on his back in the second round of the tourney.
The Malloy selection was followed with the selection of
Scott Hanson. I tell you what; you can put
his record up against anyone in this damn tourney. What a pick by Zach!
Nate Haskins started the party in the third rounds. He has been compared to a rich man’s Zach
Lehmann, which I think is an accurate assessment.
Sliding to the 6th overall pick was Nathan
Lehmann. The bad boy of Spooner Golf
Club will probably come in with a chip on his shoulder, but Zach has to be
happy with the caliber of player this late in the draft.
Curtis Heim went as the first pick in the 4th
round. Number 7 overall for those
keeping track at home. As a core team
gabe member he is hungry to get the cup in his hands. I love the strategic move here by Blake.
Zach selected the talented and deadly (with his outfits)
Blake Gauer. He is a natural #teamblake
member, so I thought this was a sneak attack pick by Zachary. I like it, very clever.
Blake luckily didn’t panic and added the dynamic Jordan
Iverson. He worm burns the fairway just
like he does to the ladies hearts. But
sorry ladies, I hear there is a new love in Jordan’s life. I bet this has him focused and determined to prove his talents.
Captain Zach then picked Zach Lehmann. What a dynamite selection here by Zach. He was thrilled to just edge out his boyhood
battub buddy Brandon Nowak who was selected with the next pick by Blake. Bwandon was a great pick and there is not one
hole you can poke in him or his game (editor’s
note: the pool is opening soon).
Zach took the slap shootin heel curved legend known as THE
HAWK with the next pick. A box of fun
and birdies make this another wonderful pick
.
After a year in rehab, (for his back, not the kind we all
should probably go visit) Vance is back on team Gabriel. A year off only adds to the hunger, to taste
sweet victory out of the cup.
The 7th round was wrapped up with Lehmann signing
the electric Korbel. He dazzles with the
irons and brings home the money with the short stick.
Scoops will no doubt be focused
on helping bringing the Cup back to Gabe.
With all the best gadgets and gear competitors are often distracted by
the Scoops and find themselves in a deep hole before they ever know it. Excellent selection by Captain Blake.
Ross Schaumberg was picked next by Zach. Actually, that was actually a pretty average pick by
Zach there.
The bottom half of the draft is where dreams are made, and
hopes are crushed. My thoughts below:
Matt (Vern) Thompson
(Blake) - Hide your Kids (dynamic and colorful
player, scary talented)
Mike Iverson (Zach)- Hide your Wife (unstoppable game on and off the course)
Dustin Sheehy (Zach)- Hide your Husband
Erik Lunde (Blake)- Fab player and Fab dresser
T Schmidt (Blake)- fearless
Taylor Sundeen (Zach)-
last man standing……. on hole 36 with a Windsor in his hands
Davey (Blake)- Only
danger with this dynamite competitor is being late looking for his credit card
from Friday night. A natural born leader, davey will keep team Gabe loose.
Big Easy (Zach)- Cant
say anything other than fierce competitor. Clutch RC player. Eats nails for breakfast
Sam O (Blake) – oozing
upside and potential
Old Man Greenfield (Zach)-
Please don’t get me fired at work this year on email!
Grey Busch (Blake)- Has
got the skills to take entire foresomes off their game
Eddie (Zach)- The jonesiest
of jones artist.
Fritz (Blake)- Primed
for a breakout year
Jake (Zach)- Why does
zach have so many twins fathers on his team?
This is getting weird.
BVB (Blake)- Spent a
year in exile to refine the game.
Scotty V (Zach)-
Laughs at danger, cries at weddings
Rich Lee (Blake)- A
solid player. Steal at this point in the
draft. This could haunt Zach.
Butt Love (Zach)- A
solid player. Steal at this point in the
draft. This could haunt Blake
Jesse (Blake)- Another player who missed last year. He will be hungry.
Byers (Zach)- Heard
he is in puppy love. Will this be a
distraction?
Stahl (Blake)- Back
for redemption
Johnny (Zach) - On
the draft feed his captain made a joke about his junior campaign. I thought that was pretty ignorant. Johnny is a great teammate.
Billy Vogel (Blake)-
Craig (Zach)- Clutch,
back and ready for some more
